Joseph Robertson is listed in the DAR database as having enlisted in 1777. He fought as a member of the patriot cause during the battles at King's Mountain and Cowpens. He is listed as member of Captain William Little's company from Caswell, North Carolina. Also served in 1780 in Captain Josiah Cole's company and Colonel Lee's regiment at the battles of Brier Creek and Stono. He received a Revolutionary War pension in 1833 in Blunt County, Tennessee. He is possibly the "Joe Robertson of Rowan, North Carolina, an old weaver, who had a famous pack of bear-dogs" that hunted with Daniel Boone in North Carolina and what is now Tennessee.

He was, however, busily employed during the cropping season at home, assisted by his sons James and Israel, while the remainder of each year found him searching the western wilderness for game and a suitable country for a new settlement. During this period, one Joe Robertson, an old weaver, who had a famous pack of bear-dogs and was devoted to the chase, often accompanied Boone into the Brushy Mountain, and over to the Watagua, securing loads of bear skins, which they packed to the settlements and sold. On one of their adventurous trips, they penetrated as far [as] the French Lick on Cumberland, and found several French hunters there.> (3B91, citing Nathan Boone, and Henry Rutherford of TN, with whose family Robertson boarded after the Revolution, and spoke many times of his hunting and exploring with DB)"".

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Robertson-8583 and Robertson-1207 appear to represent the same person because: same birth, spouse, children, death

I need to research a bit and make some changes. I have changed the Mother of Joseph Robertson from Isabel Bruce to Anna Bruce based on a marriage record recorded in Scotland on 31 March 1743. I also suspect that Isabel and Anna are sisters.

Probably some confusion I did not catch when I adopted the profile for Joseph Robertson. 1760 is correct. Sarah Caldwell was listed originally in Family Search as wife of Joseph but I corrected that.

I agree the two Joseph's are they same. The father William Robertson however I have as married to Isabel Bruce, who was mother of Joseph who I have a father to my documented GGG grandfather, George W Robertson.

I follow and agree about Isabel Bruce. George W. and "my" William Clinton are brothers, so we're cousins to some degree down the tree. Thanks for your note!

I wish wikitree notified when comments/replies are made. I just happened to look here again and see your notes. Thanks again.

As commented on Joseph Robertson-22420, I believe this record is incorrect; both birth date and spouse information.

Birth of the (probably?) correct Joseph Joseph Robertson-22420 is 1760 (not 1740). I think all eleven sources shown above identify Joseph's spouse as Margaret Derby/Darby -- not Sarah Caldwell.

Seems like some duplication with Joseph Robertson-1207. I think THIS Joseph is the correct one.

This Joseph and spouse (Margaret Darby/Derby) are listed together in the following -- Source Citation Book Title: Lineage Book of the Charter Members of the DAR Vol 051 Source Information Ancestry.com. North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2016.

From the Family Search records (often cited for this family here), Joseph is listed with this 1760 birthdate; family search ID LZGV-D8B.
