Jean Robichaux, son of Joseph Gervais Robichaud (1772 - 1858) and Marie-Anne Prejean (1771 - 1852), was born on 24 June 1803 in St James Parish, in the newly-purchased Louisiana Territory. He was baptized with the name "Jean" -- at least that's all the priest transcribed.[1]
He called himself "Valere" when he married Marie Cleonise Mire, daughter of Pierre Mire and Henriette Bernard on 3 July 1826 in Thibodaux, Louisiana.[2]
