On 22 Sep 1840 in St-Grégoire-de-Nazianze, Buckingham, Joseph Morisset major son of Nicholas Morisset and Angelique Isabella married Josephte Robillard minor daughter of Jacques Robillard and Geneviève Legault. No named relatives among the witnesses, no signatures. [1]
Josephine Robillard, 45 year old wife of Joseph Morissette died in childbirth on 22 Jan 1867 and was buried two days later in Maniwaki cemetery. [2] Her daughter Marie Morissette was born the same day and was baptized 2 days later in Maniwaki. [3]
Josephte Robillard mother of David Moricette, marriage on 19 Jul 1874. [4]
Josephine Robillard mother of Marie Morissette, marriage 12 Apr 1885. [5]
Individu: Josephine Robillard [8]
Famille: Joseph Morisset and Josephine Robillard [9]
Josephte Robillard was the daughter of Jacques Robillard and Geneviève Legault per her marriage record 22 Sep 1840. She is a minor at the time which gives her a DOB after 22 Sep 1819. It would be unusual for her to be younger than 15 at her marriage therefore her DOB should be before 23 Sep 1825. Her father's first wife Geneviève Schneider died 30 Mar 1821 [11] shortly after giving birth to a son, Joseph born 20 Mar 1821 [12]. Joseph died age 11 days on 2 Apr 1821 [13]. Her father remarried 1 Mar 1824 to Marguerite Rodier who died 21 Aug 1832.
When Jacques Robillard and Geneviève Legault were married on 11 Feb 1833 they acknowledged an 8 year old child as theirs. The child was born of "commerce criminel" implying that more than just her parents not being married to each other but rather that one parent was married to someone else at the time. [14] From this her calculated DOB is between 12 Feb 1824 and 11 Feb 1825.
The 1861 census of Canada gives her age as 37 giving her a DOB in about 1824. [7] The census began 14 Jan 1861 for Canada East but exact date of collection is not marked on the pages.
Her burial record gives an age at death of 45 years on 22 Jan 1867 [2] giving a birth date between 23 Jan 1821 and 22 Jan 1822. Age at death is notoriously inaccurate but combined with her being a minor at her marriage if she was 45 in 1867 it would put her DOB in about 1820, between the birth of her sister, Henriette Robillard in 1819 and her brother Joseph in 1821. There is no baptism in Maniwaki in 1820 that could be hers. I believe the Census data and the acknowledgement by her parents, at their marriage in 1833, of an 8 year old child is more compelling than an age of 45 in 1867.
The research supports that she was a daughter of Jacques Robillard and his third wife, Geneviève Legault, born in early 1824 while her father was married to his second wife, Marguerite Rodier.
