Biography

1776 Project
Captain George Robinette served with Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.

George Robinette, Captain, American Revolutionary War.

His first wife was said to be Sarah Dozier.

His second wife was Cassandra Burton who he married on February 21 1801[1]. George and Cassandra had a son named Jarius who died in a logging accident around 1835. [2]

Around 1790 Captain George Robinette built a log house in the vicinity of Murley Branch, Allegany, Maryland. The house is described in a NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES application for Breakneck Road Historic District. [3]

George Robinette and William House, two Revolutionary War soldiers, arrived in the late 1790's. Robinette, whose tract was "Robinettes Lot", and his offspring developed several farms. Both House and Robinette constructed log houses, as was typical of the first settlers. Robinette's log house and two others built by the next two generations of Robinette's, provide an interesting study in upward mobility within a single family as well as an illustration of architectural evolution within the valley as a result of 19th Century prosperity. The Messick (Captain George Robinette) Log Mansion was the first and most primitive of the houses. The second, built by Moses Robinette, son of Captain George, was a frame farm house with a large summer kitchen, and is still in the family while the third built by grandson George Tanner is a substantial brick home. George also operated a tannery near Flintstone.
Robinette played other important rolls in addition to establishing his own farm. In 1791, authorized by an act of the legislature, Robinette along with three others surveyed a road from Fort Cumberland to Hancock, constructed of logs.

Research Notes

added by Joan Walker In Maryland land records Robinetts, Amos, Elijah, George and George Sr, George of Nathan, Jesse, Joseph and Moses are all found selling land in Murley Branch, Alleghany, Maryland and in Pa. also named are wives Ann, Dorcas, Catherine.

In Maryland wills and probate - On George probate file the top says George Robinette 1831 and Admin Moses G. I am going to assume that Moses G was a brother to Mary, who named her son Moses G and named another son William Burton. William Burton was also a son of George. Does Admin refer to administrator, which means when someone does not leave a will, someone is assigned to handle their affairs.

[1] Will George of N. names Cassandra his wife, his children Jesse, Jose, Moses G, his children with wife Cassandra- William Burton, George, Massa, Jarius. Executor Moses G Robinett Jose I believe refers to Joseph, and Cassandra was his second wife.

    • This was hand typed, so did someone assume that Moses was the executor

Note** Why are the other children not named in his will. Was it because George did die without a will and other kids were gone?? On George find a grave # 33616758 shows Mary Robinett Conner #46183517 as his daughter, her biography reads MARY CONNER, his wife (Jacob Conner), daughter of George Robinett, and Sally, his wife, formerly Sally Dazier, was born near “Old Fort Cumberland”, now town of Cumberland, in Alleghany county in the state of Maryland, on the 22nd day of March, 1786. She is consequently in the 82nd year of her age. Since her marriage in 1801. transcribed by Nathan Vaughan Marks from Biographies and from Newspaper article.

I have found errors in Find A Grave, is it possible that this is an error. Researchers have Georges first wife as Sally or Sarah Dozier/ Dazier Why was Moses G executor on Georges will, as he would have only been 16 years old. Sorry I had my Moses G Robinett mixed with my Moses G Conner, So Moses G Robinett would have been old enough to be admin for George Robinetts affairs.
