Biography

Ira Holt Robinson was the son of Roxanna Holt and Jairus Robinson. He married Mahala Jane Huffman 23 Apr 1863 at Preemption, Mercer Co., IL. She is buried at Preemption, Mercer Co. IL

Ira was born in Weatherfield, Vermont. He left that place at an early age and lived in Massachusetts and Hew Hampshire where he grew to manhood. In 1847, at age 20, he, his mother, and brother moved to Rock Island, Ill. There for several years he was a stage driver between Rock Island and Genesso. This was before the days of railroads in that section of the country. Afterward he located on a farm in Preemption, ILL. where he lived till 1912, when he moved to Iowa to live his remaining years with his daughter, one of 10 children, until his death at age 91

Ira Holt Robinson passed away Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emma Montgomery who lives on a farm east of Brandon, IA. Mr Robinson was born in Weathersfield, VT. March 28, 1827. He came to Rock Island, IL in 1847, long before there were any railroads in that community, and followed the occupation of stage driver from Rock Island to Geneseo, IL.

He resided on a farm near Preemption, IL, for many years, later moving into town. About six years ago he came to this state where he has since resided. He was married to Mahala Huffman April 23, 1863. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. Emma Montgomery, of this place. Mrs Mary Keim, of Charter Oak; IA; James Robinson of Yale; Mrs Cynthia Arnold, Bremingham WA; Mrs Lucy Datterel Weldon, TX, Edward of Preemption, IL and Thomas of Viola, IL. Besides these relatives, there are twenty-eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, Mrs. Robinson preceded him in death about seven years ago, since that time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Emma Montgomery. The funeral services were held Saturday Morning at 10 O'clock from the Montgomery home conducted by Rev. T.A. Trimble of Methodist church and the remains were taken to his old home at Preemption for interment
