Bertha (Betty) was born on 20th December, 1916, in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, to Ernest Robinson and his wife Ada Foreman. [1]
For the first few years of Betty's life, she lived with her parents and siblings in 24, Riverside Road Ipswich, Suffolk, England. As the family grew in size, they moved to 102 Richmond Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, England, where Betty continued to live until she married. [2]
At the age of 14, Betty left school and went to work as a servant for a Doctor Baylor, to help provide for the family. [3]
During the war time years, Betty joined the Land Army Girls, and worked on various farmer's fields, doing the work that the male farmhands would have usually done. More about the Womens Land Army can be found here: Womens Land Army
On 29th August, 1953, Betty married Ronald Arthur Ling in Bethesda Church, Ipswich, Suffolk, England. [4]
On 25th August, 1954, Betty and Ron welcomed their daughter Wendy Anne Ling into the world.
In 1957, Betty, Ron and Wendy moved into 86, Waveney Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, England, which had been Ron's family home previously. Betty and Ron lived there for the remainder of their lives.
Betty passed away on 13th June, 2003 in Ipswich Hospital, Heath Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, England, after collapsing at home. [5]
