James was the eldest son of John Beverley Robinson and Emma Walker. He likely is named for James William Lukin, husband of Emma's cousin Mary Merry Lukin who died in 1816.
James became a barrister and, according to records after 1870, was Plymouth Brethren in religion.
He married Elizabeth Arnold in May 1845: "On 15th inst., James Lukin Robinson, B. L., eldest son of the Hon. the Chief Justice of Canada West, to Elizabeth, eldest daughter of John Arnold, of Sarsden, near Woodstock, Judge of the District Court, and Chairman of the Quarter Sessions."
Lukin and Elizabeth were the parents of at least 5 children: Emma, Henry, Frederick Arnold, Marion Louisa and Julia. They lived in Toronto in St George's Ward in 1861, St David's Ward in 1871, St Thomas' Ward in 1881 and St James Ward in 1891.
James Lukin Robinson succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Robinson, of Toronto, Canada [U.K., 1854] on 30 June 1863. The Robinson Baronetcy, of Toronto in Canada, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 21 September 1854 for the Canadian lawyer and politician John Robinson. He was a descendant of Christopher Robinson, originally of Cleasby, Yorkshire, who emigrated to Virginia in 1670, and who was the elder brother of The Right Reverend John Robinson, Bishop of Bristol and Bishop of London.[1].
Lukin died in 1894 in Toronto.
