Jack was born in 1900. He is the son of Richard Carnell and Alice Dyer. So far as we know Jack was adopted by Richard and Alice Carnell shortly after his birth. The circumstances are not known and no conjecture will be made about them. We do know that he had a middle name Garrett or Garnet and that his birth name was either Robertson or Richardson but have been unable to confirm which. My father rarely spoke of him (he never really spoke much about any of his family) but he did say that the two sisters always ignored him. True or not I can't confirm. I never really knew my grandmother May Inkley (Carnell) but the two or three times I did meet her I felt she was mad. Now, however, I believe that she had dementia, something that wasn't really know at that time. As for her sister Minnie, I never met her but my mother said that she felt Minnie was a miserable , vindictive so-and-so.
Neither May nor Minnie liked Jack, resenting him, seemingly forever. This is hearsay so don't take it as Gospel.
