Aged 16, Richard migrated to New Zealand, with his father Robert (40) and stepmother Ann (29) as early settlers. They departed Gravesend on October 1840, arriving at Port Nicholson, Wellington on the barque Lady Nugent on March 17 1841. (See attached press article).
