John Roche was born in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland in 1883. He was the son of John Roche and Bridget (Mahon) Roche. His father John Roche passed away in 1890 when he was age 7.
He married Dorah Doyle in Rathmines, County Dublin, Ireland in 1909. He had five children with her.
He passed away age 33 in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland in 1916.
John Roche lived all his life in the tenement houses of the Liberties area of Dublin, Ireland. Poverty was endemic in the tenements in the 19th century, and tenants moved among the houses frequently, often living a number of families to a house. Many children died young of disease and malnutrition, chiefly tuberculosis. The tenements were demolished in the 1960s and 1970s, and none of the houses he lived in survive today.
