Biography

Ensign John Rockwell, son of Jonathan and Abigail was born April, 1706, probably born in Norwalk, Connecticut[1].

He married Sept. 3, 1731, first, ELIZABETH KEELER, born Nov. 18, 1708, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Whitney Keeler. On Sept. 23, 1743, Joseph Keeler deeded land to John for and in consideration of "Yt Love and Goodwill and fatherly affection which I have and do bear to my son-in-Law, JOHN ROCKWELL, of Ridgefield." [1]

He married second Esther Hollebert, at Ridgefield, Nov. 22, 1769, who survived John's 1773 death[1].

John Rockwell was one of the eighteen constituent members of the Congregational Church of Ridgebury Society, the second church of Ridgefield, organized Jan. 18, 1769. He was one of the first deacons chosen March 8, 1770. He lived and died at Ridgebury, where his farm lay adjoining the colony line[1].

John died July 4. 1773.[1]

John had sons John and Elijah of Lanesborough, Mass., and David and Abraham Rockwell, both of Ridgebury.[1]
