OBITUARY—ROCKWELL

John Henry Rockwell, son of Leonad[sic] and Matilda Pyles Rockwell, was born January 24, 1858, and departed this life to be with Jesus, March 7, 1930, aged 72 years, 1 month, and 13 days.

In the year 1881 on December 24 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Shonkweiler[sic] who preceded him in death April 15, 1900. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom are living. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, one brother, Harrison Rockwell of Portsmouth, Ohio; three sisters and three brothers having gone on before. He also leaves the following children: George of New Holland; Albert of Lucasville; Leonard of Madison Mills; Frank of Mt. Sterling; William of Lucasville; Mrs. Grace Nance of Madison Mills; Mrs. George Morrison, of Circleville; and Mrs. Martin Brigner of Beaver. He also leaves 36 grandchildren and 7 great grand children, besides a host of other relatives, and friends.

When a young man he gave his heart to God and became a member of the Free Will Baptist Church and remained a faithful member of that church all thru his lift[sic].

His sickness was of short duration, and he bore it with patience never murmuring or complaining and he felt the assurance that all was well with his soul. In his last hours he sang and was heard to say, Praise the Lord and we believe he has gone to receive his reward. He was loved by everybody (faded row) over the entire community where he lived. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in trouble and he will be sadly missed, especially in the home, and by the neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 10:30 a. m., conducted by Rev. John Kemper with burial in the Owl Creek cemetery.

Dearest father thou has left us,

And thy loss we deeply feel;

But it’s God, who hast bereft us

He can all our sorrow fill.

Our father’s chair is vacant,

His voice we’ll hear no more;

But we all trust to meet him

Upon the Golden shore.

While we’ve had to say goodbye here

When you left your pain and care

Gone to be with all your loved ones,

It will be good morning there.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to thank the friends and (faded row) sickness and death of our death father, also Rev. Kemper and Mr. Davis and also the singers and for the beautiful floral offerings.

THE CHILDREN.
