Joseph, a cooper by trade, settled in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut about 1692/3. he purchased land on September 7, 1693 on Main Street near the meeting-house.[4]
He married Elizabeth Foster of Middletown on February 1, 1694 in Middletown. She was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Foster.[4][5] They had at least eight children. Some genealogists name two more children, Edwin and Mindwell, but no references for them have been found so far.
Joseph was admitted to the First Church of Middletown on May 31, 1702, and was chosen a Deacon on May 31, 1704. Joseph was also the town clerk from 1708 to 1734.[4]
Joseph passed away on October 28, 1742 at an age of seventy-four. He was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Middletown.[4][16][17]
His wife Elizabeth died on August 15, 1753 at an age of eighty in Middletown.[18]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

I see that Richard Rockwell (1586-bef.1637) had a son named Joseph Rockwell, but he would have been born before 1637, the date of his grandmother's will. It seems safe to conclude that Richard is not the correct parent.
The only difference is his parents. This difference in parents needs to be resolved before the merge can be made.
There are three references that show his parents to be John Rockwell I (1627-1673) and Deliverance (Hawes) Bissell (1640-1718).
