Biography

Elizabeth Jane Rodda was born before, and christened on, 16 September 1838 in Penwith, Cornwall, England ^[1], the daughter of Christopher Rodda and Elizabeth Trezise.

She married William Harvey, in 1857 at Ballarat Victoria, Australia ^[2],

Sadly, William died on 16 June 1858 Soldiers Hill, Ballarat Victoria, Australia ^[3] leaving Elizabeth with two baby boys. It seems that some time after the death of William, Elizabeth moved to Kooringa, South Australia, Australia and it was there that she married John Daw Richards, a young widower with two small daughters but unfortunately her youngest son died soon after her remarriage.

She married John on 13 March 1860 in Kooringa, South Australia, Australia ^[4][5]. Adding to the four children they brought into the marriage, John and Elizabeth had seven more children, and their children were Ann Richards, William Henry Richards, Christopher Richards, Zipporah Richards, Phillipa Richards, Charles Richards and Benjamin Richards.

After the birth of their first child Ann, they moved to Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia for long enough for their son William to be born on 2 January 1863 and then returned to Burra, South Australia, Australia before Christopher was born on 23 March 1865. Their daughter Zipporah was born on 11 May 1867 and died either at birth or soon after. The family then returned to Victoria where Charles and Benjamin were born.

A daughter, Phillipa is thought to have been born in 1868 but a search hasn't find a record for her birth has has yet to be found, so some other source is required to confirm her place in this family.

Elizabeth died on 12 June 1874 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia ^[6].

Elizabeth appears in the 1841 census. 1951 Census I can't find the family. the elder children seem to emigrate before their parents. Did she go to Australia?
