Caroline was baptised on 3 September 1825 at Camborne. Her father was John and mother Christian.[1]
On the 1841 census Caroline Rogers age 15 was living in Camborne in the same household as John Rogers age 45, miner cop, and Christian Rogers age 45.[2]
On 7 January 1845 Caroline married Francis Ralph at Camborne.[3]
Caroline and Francis had the following children:
In 1854 Caroline and Francis emigrated to Australia with two children. They arrived in Portland, Victoria on 21 November 1854 on the Bloomer after a voyage of 124 days. They had left Liverpool on 20 July. The passenger list of the Bloomer records the Ralph family as coming from Lancaster, though in fact the Ralphs were from Cornwall. Francis was a mason; his religion was Methodist; and both he and his wife could read and write. Francis was 31 and his wife Caroline 28 years old. The children were 6 and 4. In the columns “by whom engaged” and “address” the Ralphs are recorded as “on own account” and “Melbourne”.[4][5]
In addition to John and Caroline born in England, the Ralphs had a further six children in Australia. Elizabeth was born in Collingwood, Melbourne, in 1855. William was also born in Collingwood in 1857. The family moved to Ballarat and Eliza was born there in 1860 as were Christina (who died in 1870) and Francis; the youngest child, also called Christina, was born in Ballarat in 1871. There were three other children who had also died young.
Francis and Caroline moved with some of the family to South Australia. Their son John died there in 1882. The following children married in South Australia: Eliza in 1883, William in 1885, Elizabeth in 1886, Francis in 1888.
Caroline was a patient of Adelaide Hospital on 13 October 1891. Caroline Ralph, age 66, married, living Alberton was admitted to Adelaide Hospital suffering Schirrus of breast (carcinoma hard to touch). She was discharged 10 November. She was Wesleyan, born Cornwall, arrived 47 years ago on the "Bluma".[6]
Caroline died at New Street in Queenstown, in the district of Port Adelaide South Australia, on 19 January 1893. The cause of death was breast cancer with secondary deposits various parts of body.[7] Caroline was buried in Cheltenham Cemetery, Charles Sturt City, South Australia on 21 January 1893.[8]
