Biography

Ruth Rodman was born on 16 March 1759 to Joseph Rodman and Mary West in Nobletown, New York.[1] [2]

Discrepancies

The Rodman Family genealogy does not provide "proof" of the "Whiting" marriage only a statement, no documentation, no children and no information on the parents of "Wm. Whiting".

Marriage

"Genealogy of the Rodman Family (1620-1886)" notes that Ruth Rodman, daughter of Joseph Rodman and Mary West married "William Whiting."[1]

Ancestry of the Whitney Families of Pittsfield and Camden Twp., Lorain Co., filed with the Broome Co. Historical Society, Binghamton, N.Y., which names the daughter of Joseph Rodman as being Ruth Rodman, the wife of William Whitney Not Whiting.

Whitney Genealogy of the Brothers, Judge Joshua and Gen. William Whitney of Binghamton, N.Y. by Hallam S. Whitney and Dr. F. E. Weeks

Whitney Research Group regarding William Whitney 1755-1810 and wife, Ruth Rodman by Robert L. Ward

The merge included a marriage to "William Whitney" as well as a large number of children based on "The Whitneys of Binghamton, New York And Points West."[2] Neither of these sources should be considered "proof" of either marriage and more research is needed to determine the correct name of Ruth's spouse and verify her children. Unfortunately since the merge was completed without evidence that the two profiles represented the same person, Ruth now has a large unproven family and for now, the spouse that came with the merge is left intact. Both last names have been added to the profile, however, so that Ruth shows up in possible searches for both last names.

Research

  • Note that "The Descendants of John Whitney"[3] contains no information about William's marriages, including the alleged marriage to this Ruth Rodman.
  • Per comments by Ruth Proffett, a recent 2017 DNA test confirms the relationship between descendents of Ruth Rodman and her brother Asa Rodman. DNA proof citations needed.

This source needs confirmation as merge of this profile appears to have been the result of this source, but no actual information has been provided proving that the spouse of William Whitney is the same as this Ruth Rodman married to William Whiting, which is documented in the "Genealogy of the Rodman Family." My 7th great grandfather was Dr. John Rodman m. to Mary Scammon (Rodman-120). If there is enough Cm, then I feel confident that my connection would be proven by dna triangulation as I have other Rodman descendant matches. Ruth is my 4th cousin 4x removed, but I do not see my dna results listed here as a possible match. I would appreciate any help in figuring out how to do this triangulation thing.

thanks
