Bouncer, machinist, porter and boxer who sparred with Joe Louis. Won Canadian Light-Heavyweight Boxing Title (1938) before turning to acting several years later. Won Best Actor Dominion Drama Festival (1948, Canada). Played Commodore Stone on the '"Star Trek'" episode Court Martial.
Percy was born June 13, 1918 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the son of John Rodrigues and Mary Jane Philips.[1]
In 1921, he and his parents and siblings were living in the city of Montreal.
His 1st marriage was to Almeda Batson in 1943 in Montreal, Quebec whom he had met in high school. They were the parents of 3 children and were together until her death in 1996.
Even though he altered the spelling of his surname to Rodriguez for the purposes of his career, at the time of his death at age 89 on September 6, 2007, his surname was still officially spelled in its original form of Rodrigues as it also was in all obituaries for him and in an In Memoriam piece in the Montreal Gazette on October 13, 1996, honouring him and his 1st wife Almeda on the 14th anniversary of her death.[4][5][6]
