Roger was born 21 Jun 1915 in Clarke County, Alabama. He was the son of William Ira Roe and Mattie Eugenia Huggins.
In 1920 he was living in Election Precinct 19 Campbell, Clarke, Alabama.[1] The household included Ira Roc (sic) 34, wife Eugenia Roc 34, daughter Jessie May Roc 9, daughter Cara Bell Roc 7, son Lamar Roc 5, son Pitt Roc 4 and son Ira Roc Jr 2. Ira was a farmer.
In 1930 he was living in Wilmer, Mobile, Alabama[2] with his parents Ira and Eugenia and siblings Cora Belle, Lamar, and George. His father was a farmer and the sons worked on the farm.
In 1940 he was living in Beat 2, Jackson, Mississippi.[3] The household included Mattie Gene Roe 53, daughter Belle Roe 27, son Roger Roe 24, daughter Jessie Love Driskell 28 and grandson Richard Kenneth Driskell 4. Mattie was widowed. Belle and Jessie were doing office work at a woolen mill. Roger was a ship fitter at a shipyard. George Roe lived nearby and was a welder apprentice at a shipyard.
He was single when he enlisted in the US Army on 23 Dec 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.[4]
He died 29 May 1985 in George County, Mississippi[5][6]
and is buried in Howell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Howell, George County, Mississippi.[7]
