Biography

Alice Edmonia Rogers was born about 1829 or January 24, 1825 in Loudoun, County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Sanford Rogers and Margaret Hixson. [1] [2]

Alice Rogers appears at age 21 with her parents and some of her siblings in the 1850 US Census in Loudoun County, Virginia. (Her father's name was transcribed as "Landford Rogers".)[1]"

Alice E. Rogers married George W. Gaunt on August 8, 1853 in Loudoun County, Virginia.[3]

Alice Rogers Gaunt died April 8, 1892 in Miami, Saline County, Missouri and was buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Sharon, Saline County, Missouri. [2] On her headstone it says she died April 8, 1892, age 67 years, 2 months, 15 days. That implies that she was born January 24, 1825, but that is four years difference from her age stated in the 1850 census. Age in census records is often incorrect but age 11 was stated which is very different from 15.

George Washingon Gaunt died October 4, 1884 in Miami, Saline County, Missouri and was buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Sharon, Saline County, Missouri. On his headstone it says he died Oct. 4, 1884, age 73 years 8 months 15 days, implying that he was born Jan. 21, 1810. On Findagrave his date of death is shown as 1881 but his headstone says 1884, which agrees with the other record. The Findagrave record says he was born in Clarke County, Virginia.[4][5]

There was a marriage in 1882 in Frederick County, Virgina (just north of Loudoun) of a Lovell C Gaunt who was born in Saline County, Missouri in 1855. His parents were Geo and Alice Gaunt.[6]
Alice Rogers' sister Catherine married a man named Lovell Marder, so this Lovell could be named after him, or it could be a coincidence.

There is information on the Internet that says there was a migration of Virginians to Saline County, Missouri in the 1800s. The men may have come back to Virginia to find wives.[7]

Rogers-14459 and Rogers-11910 appear to represent the same person because: They have all the same information. I created this Alice Rogers as a daughter of Sanford Rogers and then I discovered her marriage and married name.
