Andrew Rogers was the eldest son of Richard Rogers of Bryanston in Dorset and his first wife, Cecilia Luttrel, daughter of Andrew Luttrell of Dunster Castle in Somerset.[1] Visitation calls Cecilia Margaret but says the name was added in pencil. [2] He was educated at Oxford gaining a BA in 1567 before attending Inner Temple. [1]
His first marriage was to a daughter of Adrian Poynings, who bore him no children. [1]
Andrew's second marriage was to Mary Seymour, daughter of Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset and his second wife, Anne Stanhope. [2] Again there were no children.[1]
He was first returned to Parliament in 1571 as Member for Christchurch, together with John Hyett. Andrew's uncle by marriage, Matthew Ewens was counsel to the Henry Hastings, Earl of Huntingdon parliamentary patron of the borough which according to History of Parliament could account for Andrew's return. [1] However it should be noted that Matthew Ewens was not married to Frances Rogers, Andrew's aunt, at the time as she was still the wife of John Hyett.
At the time of the Spanish Armada in 1588 he led a contingent of troops to Tilbury to help guard against the threat of invasion.[1]
His date of death, childless, is not known but probably around 1599.[1]
