Biography

Abigail Rogers was born probably at Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, about 1640. Her gravestone says she was age 86 when she died in 1727.[1] She was the daughter of Anna (Churchman) and John Rogers of Duxbury. John's will made a bequest: "Also I Give that twenty shillings a year which is my due for fourscore acres of land which I sold to my two Grandsons Joseph Richmond and Edward Richmond which said twenty shillings a year I Give to my daughter Abigail Richmond."[2]

She married John Richmond, as his second wife, by 1663. They were both residing in Duxbury at the time.[3]

She died August 1, 1727 at Taunton, Massachusetts (Bristol), aged 86 years. She was buried at Neck O Land Cemetery, in Taunton.[1]

Neither Abigail or John Richmond have a probate record, but John administered the 1706 estate of his son Thomas (by first wife). In the documents he refers to his his sons Ebenezer, Joseph, Samuel and Edward, son-in-law Richard Godfrey and his wife Mary (dtr by first wife), and son-in-law James Walker (spouse of Abigail).[4]

The children of John and Abigail Richmond were all b. Taunton except Ebenezer b. in Newport, Rhode Island.[3]
