Biography

Lovely Rogers was born November 28, 1812 in the Cherokee Nation, the son of Sarah Cordery and John Rogers. ^[1] He emigrated to Indian Territory in the Bell detachment on the Trail of Tears. ^[2] After he arrived he married a full-blood Cherokee woman named Darkey about 1844. Lovely and Darkey were the parents of a son also named Lovely. ^[3] Lovely, Sr. married a woman named Mary Ann Cooley about 1847; they were the parents of John and Joseph. ^[4]

Lovely moved to California and died in Mariposa County, California, on 19 February 1897. ^{[5] [6]}
