Biography

George was Cherokee.

George Mitchell Rogers was born in 1841 in Georgia, the illegitimate son of Robert Rogers and Harriet Jenks.[1][2]

He married Elizabeth Rebecca (Foster) Rogers (1844-).[3] He and his family moved to the Indian Territory in 1886. They were the parents of:

  1. Ida
  2. Montezuma 1863-1865
  3. Iola Rogers (1869-)
  4. Garry 1868 died in infancy
  5. Jennie
  6. Walter Scott Rogers (1871-)
  7. Lillian
  8. Mamie
  9. George Lester Rogers (1875-1916)
  10. Frederick Earl Rogers (1884-)[4]

He died in 1900 in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory.

Research Notes

He used at various times his mother's maiden name of Jinks, his step-father's name of Hunnicutt and his biological father's name of Rogers. Robert Rogers and Harriet Jinks were not married to each other. Harriet later married Edmond Hunnicutt.
