Biography

Elizabeth Rogers was born on 27 Oct 1823 in North Carolina.

She married George Holt on 11 Feb 1841 in Gasconade County, Missouri.^{[1] [2]} Their children:

1. Russell Holt, (1842–Deceased) Not on the 1850 Census.
2. John W. Holt, (1843–Deceased) Not on the 1850 Census.
3. Harvey Washington Holt (1845-1924)
4. Henry P. Holt, (1847–1864)
5. Mary C Holt, (1850–Deceased)
6. Edward Riley Holt (1852-1930)
7. Logan Holt (1861-1949)

The 1850 Census^[3] shows her at age 28 with her husband three children in Canaan, Gasconade County, Missouri.

The 1860 Census^[4] shows her at age 38 with her husband and four children in Third Creek Township, Gasconade County, Missouri.

She died on 12 Jul 1861 in Gasconade County, Missouri, and is buried at the Richardson Cemetery in Owensville, Gasconade County, Missouri.^[5]

Note: Her wedding was officiated by her husband's brother-in-law, Rev. Benjamin Leach, Sr. who is married to her sister-in-law, Mary Holt, and whose daughter, Permelia Ann Leach, married George and Elizabeth's son Harvey Washington Holt.

Regarding her Last Name At Birth:
"Researcher Rex Harmon suggests that Mrs. Holt's maiden may also be spelled Rodgers." ^[5]

Regarding her place of birth:

• North Carolina is seen for her on the 1850 Census.^[3]
• Missouri is seen for her on the 1860 Census.^[4]
• Tennessee is seen on the 1880 Census, where son Harvey states his mother's birth place.^[6]

Regarding her date of marriage:
The book, The Descendants of Michael Holt,^[7] gives various marriage dates for Elizabeth Rogers and George Holt:

• 27 Feb 1841 on p. 259 from Gasconade County Court House, Herman Missouri - Bk A, p. 104
• 14 Feb 1841 on p. 299
• 11 Feb 1841 on p. 514

These variations are not necessarily errors, but may be differences in marriage license application date, actual marriage date, and registration or recording dates, as they appear to have come from slightly different sources.

Family Search now shows a depth of ancestry for Elizabeth.^[8] Much research will be needed to verify it! If the Family Search line is correct, it will connect to John Rogers (abt.1782-) as her grandfather.
