Possible Parents: Father: Joseph (John) Rogers b. 1835 Illogan Downs, Cornwall England. Mother: Marie Marriage date unknown. This is not corroborated. by any documentation at this time.
1880 Census shows Richard living with Samuel Rogers in Phillipsburg, PA and married to Catherine Lowery. Catherine was born in England and was related to Elizabeth Lowery, wife of Samuel. Daughters Josephine and Clara were born in Philipsburg, PA This biography is a rough draft. It was auto-generated by a GEDCOM import and needs to be edited."
More complete Bio: Richard John (aka John or RJ) is reportedly born in Michigan circa 1854/6. His death certificate says he is born in Superior, MI. The State of Michigan did not record births until the 1860s. It could be Superior Township in Chippewa County, Michigan (needs documenatation). If he was born in Michigan c 1854/6 and Joseph was his father (per RJ’s death cert), it’s possible Joseph and Eliza are not his parents. RJ may be grandson of Joseph and Eliza and the son of Joseph 9jr) and Maria, married in 1854 in Houghton MI. Joseph (jr) is 26 in the 1860 census and so in 1854 he would have been 20, he could have fathered a child. Neither Maria nor RJ nor Joseph (sr) appear in the 1860 census with the rest of the family in Houghton Michigan.
Other records show Ishpeming, MI as RJ’s birthplace. Clifton Shafts Mine was in Ishpeming so it’s possible that this was the family’s first stop in the US. Joseph and Eliza’s son, Henry is recorded as marrying Dorothy Peters in Nauganee in 1866 which is a nearby town. Perhaps this is evidence that part of the family lived there for a time.
Eliza (Rogers) marries Adam Miller in 1862. She is 17 years old. They have two children born in Michigan, the next 3 are born in PA. In the 1870 census, Eliza and Adam Miller live in close proximity to Henry and William’s families. (Richard) John Rogers (age 16) is listed in the census as part of their household. Based on children's birth places, they moved in 1864-1866 from Mi to PA and then to Weld, Colorado about 1890. Eliza and Adam both die in Colorado.
Catherine Lowery, age 12 lives with her (Uncle?) Samuel and (Aunt?) Elizabeth Rogers (nee Lowery) per the 1870 census. Catherine's parents are reported as John Lowery and Elizabeth Ead (needs documentation). While living there, she meets RJ and marries him. In Sam and Eliza's household for the 1880 census, RJ and Catherine have 2 children, Clio and Josephine.
RJ and Catherine move to Weld, Colorado about 1885 and then subsequently to Bingham, Idaho. They have 12 children, 11 living per the 1900 Census. Three were born in PA and the rest in Colorado starting in 1886. Some family trees list Carrie as a daughter born in Michigan (needs documentation)
