Hubert Francis Rogers I, son of Hubert Rogers and his wife Emily Adams, was born on 6th January 1872 at Mullingar in County Westmeath, Ireland. [1]
After marrying in Dublin in 1865, Hubert's parents settled at Mullingar in County Westmeath where his father Hubert Senior was a merchant, as was his grandfather Hugh and his uncle Daniel. Current photographs of Greville Street where the family lived show rows of mainly two-storied shops standing side-by-side. If those buildings were similar in the late 1800s, the family would have had to live above Hubert's trading premises.
Of the ten children believed to have been born into the family, Hubert is thought to be the second son and the third child. Hubert and Francis were both important names in the family … Hubert being the name of his father and Francis that of his mother's father. This child was the first in the family to be given both names.
On 10th March 1873, when he was fourteen months old, Hubert died at his home of "gastric fever".[2]
