Jacqueline de Rohan-Gyé was a French noblewoman of the house of Rohan. Lady of Blandy by marriage, she was regent of Rothelin, Neuchâtel and Valangin for her son Léonor. Converted to Protestantism, she made her castle of Blandy in Brie a refuge for Protestants.
Jacqueline de Rohan-Gyé was born about 1520, the daughter of Charles de Rohan, Vicomte de Fronsac and Jeanne de Saint-Severin (Giovanna Sanseverino) daughter of Bernardino, Prince of Bisignano, and Eleonora Todeschini Piccolomini.
They had three children:
Jacqueline converted to Protestantism around 1557 and certainly before 1559. She had received the castle of Blandy-les-Tours as her dowry and there she welcomed Huguenot refugees, particularly after the religious war of 1562. For this she suffered a term of imprisonment in the Louvre in 1567.
Jacqueline died in July 1587. Though she died a Protestant, she was buried in the choir of the church of Blandy. Following the events of the French Revolution, her body was exhumed in 1794 and re-interred in the communal cemetery. It was re-interred again in 1854, when the Blandy cemetery was moved out of the village. The grave was vandalized in 1990 and then restored; on the occasion the grave had to be moved again, and it was only then, on her third reburial, that Jacqueline at last received a Protestant funeral.
Jacqueline's profile originally stated she was born at Guéméné-sur-Scorff in Brittany. Though this makes sense as the castle of Guéméné was home to the Rohan-Guéméné family since 1377, I have found no sources mentioning Jacqueline's place of birth or exact date of birth.
