Biography

Leonard Walter Rolfe was born in 1888 in Lyminge, Kent, England to Henry Rolfe and Elizabeth Ann (Hewson) Rolfe. His birth was registered in Elham, Kent in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Hewson.[1]

In 1891 Leonard W Rolfe (age 3) lived in Lyminge with his father Henry (37, Miller and Baker), mother Elizabeth A (42[44]), and five siblings: Roland H (12), Elsie M (14[11]), Margaret C (10), Francis S (8), and Janet B (6).[2]

In 1901 Leonard W Rolfe (age 12) lived in Lyminge with his father Henry (47, Baker), mother Elizabeth A (49[54]), and three siblings: Elize M (20), Francis S (18, Carpenter), and Janet B (15, Music Shop).[3]

In 1911 Leonard Walter Rolfe (age 22, Carpenter) lived in Lyminge with his widowed mother Elizabeth Ann (63, Private Means), sister Elsie Marie (31), great-aunt Sally Jane Anna Francis (90, Private Means), and two boarders: Cordelia Elizabeth Jeffery (86, Private Means) and Elsie Adelaide Shaw (12, School).[4]

Leonard W Rolfe married Clara A Nicholls in 1912. The marriage was registered in Elham in the third quarter of the year.[5]

Leonard and Clara had at least one child:

Leonard Walter Rolfe served in the military during World War I. He was in the Labour Corps (29th Battalion circa 1916[6], and 832nd Home Service Works Company circa 1919[7]).

Leonard's wife passed away in 1939: "ROLFE Clara Adelaide of 90 Morehall-avenue Folkestone (wife of Leonard Walter Rolfe) died 12 January 1939 at 108 Cheriton-road Folkestone Administration London 11 February to the said Leonard Walter Rolfe house carpenter. Effects £351 7s. 3d."[8]

Leonard W Rolfe married Edith V Easton in 1942. The marriage was registered in Folkestone, Kent in the last quarter of the year.[9]

Leonard W Rolfe passed away on 28 Jan 1952, aged 63 years. His death was registered in Folkestone in the first quarter of the year.[10]

"ROLFE Leonard Walter of St. Dunstans High-street Lyminge Kent died 28 January 1952 at Ox-road Farm Elham Kent Administration London 11 March to Edith Victoria Rolfe widow and Maureen Lois Rolfe spinster. Effects £1967 17s. 11d."[11]
