Biography

This profile is part of the Rolfe Name Study.

John was probably the "John Rofe the sonne of henrie Rofe" who was baptized at Plaitford, Hampshire on August 12, 1632.[1] His older sister Anna was probably the "Anna Roulfe the daughter of henry Roulfe" who was baptized at Plaitford in 1626.[2] Plaitford is about 4.5 miles southeast of Whiteparish, Wiltshire.

John Rolfe (son of Henry), married Mary Scullard in 1656 and lived a short time in Newbury, then moved to Nantucket, then to Cambridge (the part now called Arlington). He bought the "Cook Mills" from Edward Collins. He died in 1681 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony.

His children were:

  1. Mary, born Nov. 2, 1658, died Dec. 10, 1658
  2. Mary, born Jan. 16, 1659-60
  3. Rebecca, born Feb. 9, 1661-2. She married William Cutter
  4. John, born March 5, 1663-4
  5. Samuel, born March 8, 1665-6
  6. Sarah, born Dec. 2, 1667
  7. Joseph, born March 12, 1669-70
  8. Hannah, born Feb. 5, 1671-2
  9. Benjamin, born Feb. 1, 1673-4. He married Margaret Holland
  10. Henry, born Sept. 26, 1678
  11. Moses, born Oct. 14, 1681. He married Mary Hale in New Jersey. [3]

While researching this family, I found this article about a court case involving Mrs. Rolfe and "attempted adultery".

Editing Note

I removed a massive volume of junk from this profile that looks to be completely devoid of sources, aside from one reference to "U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900" which I suspect refers to Torrey's New England Marriages to 1700. Otherwise, I've deleted everything else as useless. If anyone wants to recreate it, go back to my changes for 4/27/2017 Dane-173 23:25, 27 April 2017 (EDT)
