Biography

Hello, I'm William Henry Roll, born in 1942, a retired public school teacher, and living in a small isolated town in the southeastern California desert in the United States. I have been researching the Roll and related families since before 1995. I have portions of my genealogy on the internet in various locations.

We are the sum of our ancestors. Y-chromosome DNA testing shows that I belong to the "Nordic" Haplogroup I1a (M253), therefore, my earliest Roll ancestors came out of Africa about 70,000 years ago, crossed to the Middle East, moved up through Anatolia, across the Bosporus into the Balkans and across southern Europe. They sojourned for a while in Spain during the last Ice Age, and when the thaw came they moved north. I was with them!

I have ancestors in the historic past for the most part from Ireland, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, Germany, and France. My living relatives hail from such places as the Republic of Serbia, Republic of China, Arab Republic of Egypt, and United Mexican States.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with William or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • William Roll: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 111 markers, haplogroup I-M253, FTDNA kit #104155
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
  • William Roll: Family Tree DNA mtDNA Test Full Sequence, haplogroup I2, FTDNA kit #104155
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Welcome to the New Netherland Settlers Project-we're happy to have you. I have awarded you the badge, and added you as a manager to the Criteria and Site Map pages, which we use to communicate with each other on the bulletin boards, as this group does not use an email list or Google+ group. Be sure to check out the project page and the category page for more information on determining the final WikiTree ID for a person, since many times our ancestors did not have a surname until arriving in the country. We have a special system for these as well as the merges that go with them, so please read up on it, as well. You should also add new_netherland to your G2G feed so you can keep up on the conversations there. Thanks for joining us!

Hello, I have a presence on similar sites, but am anxious to find the right place to freely share my genealogical research of the last 20 years... I don't want it lost. I grant a share alike with attribution license for my genealogy. My interest in genealogy is broader than my own tree. We are all one family. I want my work to be part of a single worldwide family tree, and wish my mistakes identified. I agree with WikiTree's mission and honor code. I volunteer to help build WikiTree. I will assume other members act in good faith.
