Biography

Mary Catherine Romans, called Katie, was born on 30 December 1819 in Russell County, Virginia, United States to William Romans (1783-1857) and Nancy Bundy (1796-1853).

She married Hudson William Blackburn (1809-1895) in 1834 in Pike County, Kentucky. She was said to have had 12 children.

  1. Nancy Blackburn was born on 1 April 1836 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married Jeremiah Williamson (1842-1870) on 28 March 1859 in Pike County, Kentucky. Nancy died on 9 February 1914 in Canada, Pike, Kentucky, United States.
  2. Hudson Farley Blackburn was born c. 1838 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  3. Virginia Jane Blackburn, known as Jenny, was born in 1840 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married James M. Morris (b. 1840- ). Jenny died on 30 May 1914 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  4. John Henderson Blackburn was born on 31 January 1842 in Kimper, Pike, Kentucky, United States. He married 1) Malinda Smith (1848-1870) on 22 May 1865 in Pike County, Kentucky and 2) Marinda May (1851-1898) on 3 January 1871 in Pike County, Kentucky. His first wife had died in childbirth leaving 3 children. John died on 19 June 1916 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  5. Causby Blackburn was born in March 1843 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married George Hatfield (1849-1928) on 13 October 1867 in Piketon, Pike, Kentucky. George was the son of Jeremiah Hatfield (1807-1913) and Rachel Vance (1808-1886).
  6. Jeremiah Blackburn, known as Jerry, was born on 27 June 1846 in Canada, Pike, Kentucky, United States. He married Mary Hatfield on 23 September 1869 in Pike County, Kentucky. Mary was the daughter of Ephraim Hatfield (1812-1901) and Phoebe Easter Vance Jerry died on 28 March 1932 in Huddy, Pike, Kentucky, United States.
  7. Sarah Blackburn, known as Salley, was born in October 1848 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married Fleming Varney (1845-1890) in c.1868. She died in 1923.
  8. Anna Blackburn was born on 29 August 1850 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married William Harrison Reed (1850-1939) on 26 October 1872 in Pike County, Kentucky. Annie died on 11 July 1934 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  9. Unknown Blackburn female was born on 5 August 1852 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. Probably died at birth.
  10. Phoebe Blackburn was born on 10 November 1853 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married Frank Church (b. 1853- ). Phoebe died in 1879 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  11. William A. Blackburn was born c. 1855 in Kentucky, United States. He died in February 1870 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  12. Mary Polly Blackburn was born on 10 December 1866 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married James Henderson Hatfield (1835-1894 in Ransom, KY). He was the son of Ephraim Hatfield (1812-1901) and Phoebe Easter Vance (1812- ). Mary died in 1870.
  13. James Washington Blackburn was born on 17 May 1862 in Canada, Pike, Kentucky, United States. He died on 29 October 1932 in Huddy, Pike, Kentucky, United States.
  14. Mary Polly Blackburn was born c. 1866 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The 1870 Census is the only record found for her. There is another Mary, but in a different Blackburn family. The other Mary married James Hatfield.

Not sure if it is simply a mistake that one of the daughters is included with the male children.
