Biography

John Ronemous was born January 2, 1808, in Jefferson county Virginia, a son of Philip Hieronymus (aka Ronemous) and Jane (Thompson) Hieronymus. John's father was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. His military records are found under the name of Ronemous, and this family began using that spelling of the surname, but there are many variations of the spelling in close family members in the area.

Like his father, John joined the military. John served with Company F. of the First Virginia Calvary, and with the Twelfth Virginia Calvary. John was twice married. His first wife was Susannah Barbara Licklider (1813 - 1855) daughter of Conrad Leichleiter (aka Liclklider) and Anna Margaretha (Froushour) Licklider. John married secondly, on January 2, 1858, Mrs. Merinda (Hess) McCleary, widow of Joseph McCleary.

John died February 13, 1894, in Uvilla, Jefferson county, West Virginia. (West Virginia became a state in 1863, at the onset of the American Civil War.) John is buried in the graveyard of the Saint James Lutheran Church, as is his mother, and presumably, his father, who died in Uvilla, on March 20, 1832 [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
