He was among the proprietors in the 1729 petition to the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and 1730-1735 settlement of 10,000 Acre Provincial Land Grant, incorporating the town of New Medford ( now Sturbridge), and the committee signing the September 29, 1736, New Medford Church Covenant--First Congregational Church, Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
Having complied with the conditions-- General Court-- established within seven years -- fifty families, and having "an house of 18 feet square,... at least"--their petition for incorporation was granted 24 June 1738--the new town was named Sturbridge[16]
Solomon Rood removed from Norwich, Conn. probably in 1754, to Amherst, Massachusetts.
Death
He was in military service against the Indians in 1756. Tradition of his death by scalping is to be found in records of certain of his descendants. His burial, while not known, is likely in the Lake George, New York area.[17]
Solomon Rood passed away on 31 October 1756 in Lake George, New York. (Now located in Warren County, formed in 1813.) His death was recorded by the county clerk in Sturbridge, Massachusetts as occurring in Lake George.[18]
