Biography

James was born on 11 Mar 1835. He was the son of Robert Rooke Rooke-214 and Eliza Theodosia Adams Rooke Adams-31949. In about 1845 he ran away from school aged 10 years old, He went to sea as a cabin boy. After a number of years and many adventures at sea he arrived in 1854 in Coos County, Oregon. In 1855 he enlisted in the Army and fought in the Rogue River Indian War. In 1866 he became a farmer, an occupation which he pursued, with considerable success, for the next 29 years. In 1880 he married Helen Mar Gurney with whom he had five children.[1] He passed away in 1905.
