Stanley was born in 1942. He is the son of William Rooker and Elizabeth Sutton. Stanley passed away in 2023.
Stanley Irvin Rooker, 81, of Ottumwa, died at 3:51 p.m. September 12, 2023 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1942 in Wapello County to William and Elizabeth Sutton Rooker. He married Frances Jane Leonard at Bethany Baptist Church on April 3, 1964.
A 1960 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Stan earned a degree in computer programming from Iowa Technical College in 1964. He worked in public health as the Health Inspector and director for Wapello County in the city of Ottumwa for 30 years and in Council Bluffs for 12 years, retiring in 2006. He also worked part-time at Hy-Vee for 9 years and for Collaborative Lab Services for 5 years.
Stan was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He had attended Bladensburg Christian Church and was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church where he participated in youth and puppet ministry and sang in men’s quartet. He was a member of Ottumwa Noon Lions Club since 1968 and a life-member of the National Environmental Health Association.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, singing and was a member of the SE Iowa Men’s Choir and other area quartets, and enjoyed participating in plays and musicals with Ottumwa Community Players. Stan loved spending time with his family and his girls always said “Daddy can fix anything!”
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Fran; their daughters, Amy Lou (Rick) Wells of Douds, Elizabeth Anne (Jeff) Ornduff of Carlisle and Jody Lynn (Tony) Selch of Hudson, FL; 7 grandchildren, Jake (Corenna) Allen, Katelynn Allen, Randy Wells, Christian Wells, Brian Ornduff, Adam Ornduff and Cassidy Sunstrom; 2 great grandchildren, Emma Rae and Gabe; a sister, Juanita Norman of Albany, OR; and 2 sisters-in-law, Ione Rooker and Joyce Rooker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne Rooker, Roger Rooker and Charlie Rooker.
Visitation will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 17th at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 18th at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Lions Club International Ottumwa or First Presbyterian Church.
