Biography

No birth or baptism records have been found for Mary Cowell but the 1841 England Census gives her age as 13, with no father but mother Susan Cowell (35) and 4 siblings. The 1851 England Census indicates she was born at Castle Camps and her age 23. Her marriage to Francis Rooks was registered at Linton, Cambridgeshire in the January quarter of 1850.

Mary and her husband Francis and children immigrated to Victoria arriving on 30 December 1854 on the 'Tudor'. ^[1]

She died aged 84 at Lancefield, Victoria in 1911, with her death registered in the name of Rooks. ^[2]
