Biography
John was born in 1809. His Mother and Father (Jonathan & Elizabeth (Hespeler) Clemens were both born in Germany and immigrated to Waterloo in 1828. He was married to Rosina Roos. In the Waterloo 1852, his occupation was listed as a Tavern Keeper. Then in 1861 & 1871, he was listed as a Merchant, also in Waterloo. In 1881 he is listed as a baker in Waterloo. Rosina and John had 10 children. "John Roos died in Preston at the age of 75 years, 11 months & 14 days. He was a native of Dettweiler in Alsace-Lorraine and emigrated here in 1828. In the last few years, he was afflicted with kidney stones, accompanied in addition by rheumatism, and he suffered untold pain. His coffin was followed, in addition to numerous participants from near and far by 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 6 sons, 2 daughters, 52 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild.
