Life events

N6488: Colonial War Ancestor
Came to New Amsterdam (New York) on the 16th of April 1660 with his family on the Bonte Koe (Spotted Cow): "Albert Heymans, farmer, from Gelderland, wife and 8 children: 17, 15, 14, 9, 8, 7, 4, 2 yrs old" [2]
In 1668, he was granted a large tract of land in Dutchess Co., NY, referred to as the "Roosa Patent" and containing about one thousand five hundred (1,500) acres opposite Roundout Creek near Kingston and extending along the bank of the Hudson River.
The ancestors of the Roosa family in America were descended from Albert Heymans Roosa. He landed in New Netherland in April, 1660, coming on the ship Bonti Koo, (Spootted Cow) in company with Roeloff Swartseout and others.
The accounts are as follows [10]: Albert Heymans, Agriculturalist from Gelderland and his wife and eight children. The wife of Albert Heymans Roosa was named Wyntje Allards or Ariends and soon after their arrival they settled in the Esopus district at Wiltwych, now Kingston, Ulster County, NY.
At this place, with Cornelius Barents Slecht and wife; Lryntjo Bos Mathese Blanchere and wife, Madeline Jorisco; Roellof Swartivout and Eva Albertus Bradt de Noorman and others.
Albert Heymans Roosa and his wife participated in the first administration of the Lords Supper on December 25, 1660 by the Reverend Harmonus Bloem.
Roosa was a wealthy man for those days, bringing with him considerable property from Holland. He speedily occupied an influential position in the new settlement.
In the spring of 1661, he joined in a contract which guaranteed a salary to Domine Bloem, who had been called as the regular pastor of the Dutch Church of Wiltoyck. (? sp.)
Copy of the Agreement:
The undersigned inhabitants of the serttlement at he place called Esopus, promise to give our Reverend Minister Harmonus Bloem as salary for the first year (which salary had commended upon his arrival here on the 5th of September, 1660) the sum of seven hundred guilders in corn at beaver valuation in case his farm should fail and we promise further to put the farm in good order according to contract as soon as the land has been allotted and to raise that sum at the latest for the coming farming season.
This we the undersigned promise faithfully and truly to do. This done on the 4th of March, 1661.

Note

Rebecca Roosa was baptized at the New York Reformed Church 20 March 1678: Adriaen Albertszen Roos, Maria Adriaens; Rebecca; Stoffel Elswaert, Margrietie Claes. Notice that this is the most complete rendering of Arie's name: Arie is a nickname for Adriaen - he was the namesake of his maternal grandfather. Albertszen means son of Albert, which of course he was. He was incorrectly recorded once (at the baptism of his son Evert in 1679) as "Ary Heymansse Rosa" and for some reason this has caught on among researchers, although wrong. He was most often called simply Arie Roosa, because he was the only person of that name in the colony until he named his son Arie in 1694.
Note: His father was named Aeldert Heymensz, so probably after arrival and due to pronouncement difficulties, the patronymic became Albert at some point ?
Ary came from the Netherlands in 1660 on the Spotted Cow with his parents and his siblings. He was involved with his father in the Esopus Mutiny. Ary was a captain in the militia regiment of Ulster and Dutchess Co's. He was one of five people who recieved lots during a division of the Dongan Patent, having recieved lots one and four on May 26, 1702. Ary, also, used "Rose" as his surname.[11]

Hi ,

After all merges it could use some organizing, so organized this one

I saved the data to the bios. According to the bio notes source in this match, his proper name was Adriaen, and Arie was the nickname by which he was commonly known. And Heymense is a falsehood, which appears in error in one reocrd, maybe in confusion with his father. We can adjust these points as needed after merges. Thanks!

Roosa-147 and Roosa-217 appear to represent the same person because: I think typos are the source of a lot of profiles that describe the same person. The place Herwijnen in Gelderland is correct, the patronymic "Heymanse" is more probable than "Jeymanse".
