Biography

Petrus was born in Dutchess County, New York.^[1] He was baptized on 2 January 1737, recorded as a child of Ary Roosa and Geesjen Oostrander. The baptism was recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. The witnesses were Ary Oosterhout, Pieter Oostrander, Racheltjen Dingman, and Margriet Bogardus.^[2]

Petrus Roos and Sarah van Steenberg registered their marriage banns on 4 July 1761 in the Reformed Dutch Church at Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York. According to the church record, he was born in Dutchess County and she was born at Kingston; both were residing at "Shawankong." The date of their marriage is not in the record.^[1]
