Ellen Roosevelt was a cousin of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the thirty-second President of the United States. She was a gifted American tennis player winning the women's singles title and the women's doubles title (with her sister Grace) at the 1890 US Championships and the mixed doubles title at the 1893 US Championships.
In 1975, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
