When Frederick Winfield Root was born on July 23, 1886, in Brule, South Dakota, his father, Willis, was 30 and his mother, Sarah, was 28. He married Ruth Ann Landes on June 27, 1917, in Kootenai, Idaho. They had two children during their marriage. He died on November 11, 1948, in Greenacres, Washington, at the age of 62, and was buried there.
