Adam was born 10 March 1865 in Wellsville NY, the the son of John Root and Barbara Schweitzer. His father was in the Union Army when Adam was born.
The census records show Adam living in Wellsville with his parents and siblings in 1865, 1870, 1875, and 1880. [1] [2]
He was admitted to the Allegany County Poor House on 13 July 1887 with a diagnosis of consumption. He was discharged on 9 September 1887 with a prognosis of "no hopes" for "probable destiny of this Person as respects recovery" and went home with his father. [3]
He died a month later on October 10, 1887, in Alma NY and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.[4]
