The names of Josiah and his wife Susanna are on the petition the First Church of Salem to set off as a church. Hence he became one of the founders of the Beverly church.
Susanna was accused of witchcraft May 21, 1692.[4]

Susana Clarke Rootes was born Susanna Clarke. 'Rootes' was added after the marriage of Susanna Clark to Josiah Rootes.
According to "Notes," we "do not know Susanna's maiden name." Possibly at the time that was added -we didn't know of a maiden name. I've looked all about and found nothing new on this profile.
Is that of any help? <}}}>< Karen aka Rantz-7, who inherited this profile from her mother years ago as is.
Thanks, Karen. Are there any sources that show she was actually Susanna Clarke? When her profile first came in (2013) she had Unknown for a last name, and, as Unknown, she was Josiah Rootes spouse. It wasn't until 2015 that Clarke became her last name at birth, and there was not any accompanying documentation that I can find that supported the change.
Anderson, Perley, Root Genealogical Records and other sources show her only as Susanna _______. Unless there are sources that can be added to support her last name of Clarke, it needs to be changed to Unknown.
If we do change Susanna to last name unknown, we can keep the link to Clarke in the narrative, with a comment about continued research.
I'm working through sources for an update to the profile of John Lovett, Jr. right now. And, by association, at least some of those pertaining to Bethia Rootes, John's wife and the daughter of Josiah/Susanna. (So, ditto, sources concerning Josiah/Susanna.)
Will advise if I find a reference to Clarke in one of those sources.
Perhaps need to fashion a G2G for this, as WikiTree Witch Trial project might have knowledge of material addressing this matter.

Adding this here ... for my own purpose. Works consulted for 2015 ver. New England Marriages to 1700 2:1299, are "Granberry 270, 307; Salem 1:373; Beverly Ch. Rec.; Root 50+; DePew 91; Eaton Gen. 64; Fairfield Fam. 1:505; EIHC 3:230."
From related work on profile of John Lovett (d. 1727) m. Josiah's daughter, Bethia, have several events and sources that could be added. --Gene

Why is she then Clarke-5507, Susanna Rootes formerly Clarke?
Have I missed something?
Thank you. --Gene
