Biography

Ada Roper was born on 11 Sep 1880 in Hyde, Cheshire, England to John Roper and Martha (Hurst) Roper. Her birth was registered in Stockport, Cheshire in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Hurst.^[1]

In 1881 Ada Roper (age 0) lived at Hyde Lane in Hyde with her father John (25, Beef Butcher), mother Martha (23), sister Annie (3), and brother Samuel H (1).^[2]

In 1891 Ada Roper (age 10, Cotton Weaver) lived in Hyde with her father John (36, Overlooker Cotton), mother Martha (33, Cotton Weaver), and three siblings: Hannah (13, Cotton Weaver), Samuel (11, Cotton Weaver), and William H (5).^[3]

In 1901 Ada Roper (age 20, Cotton Weaver) lived in Hyde with her father John (45, Overlooker of Cotton Weaver), mother Martha (43), and three siblings: Annie (23, Cotton Weaver), Samuel H (21, Cotton Spinner), and William Hurst (15, Grocers Assistant).^[4]

Ada Roper of 59 Crose St (age 27, daughter of John Roper, Overlooker Weaver) married Edward Duckworth of Woodend Farm (age 29, Cotton Spinner, son of John Duckworth, Cotton Operative) on 21 Mar 1908 at the parish church of St George in Hyde.^[5] The marriage was registered in Stockport in the first quarter of the year.^[6]

Ada and her husband immigrated to Canada in about 1910.

Ada and Edward had at least one child, born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan:

1. Edward Gordon Duckworth (c1914-)

In 1921 Ada Duckworth (age 40) lived at 855 Hochelaga East in Moose Jaw with her husband Edward (42, Farrier), son Edward Gordon (8), and father John Roper (68, Painter).^[7]

In 1926 Ada Duckworth (age 46) lived at 855 Hochelaga St East in Moose Jaw with her husband Edward (48) and son Gordon (12).^[8] Ada's brother Samuel Roper lived on the same street.

Ada was living in British Columbia by 1945: "Mrs. E. Duckworth, residing in British Columbia" according to her brother Samuel's funeral notice on 16 Nov 1945.^[9]

Ada's husband Edward Duckworth passed away in 1966.

Ada Duckworth passed away on 10 Nov 1975 at St Francis Hospital in Nelson, British Columbia - her usual residence was 1841 Columbia Ave in Rossland, BC; she was the widow of Edward Duckworth; her occupation was Housewife; she was 95 years old, born 11 Sep 1880 in England; her parents were John Roper & Hanna [Martha] Hurst; the informant was her son EG Duckworth; she was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Rossland.^[10]
