Thomas ROPER's date of birth is unknown. He is believed to be a son of William Roper, however the evidence is only circumstantial. He died before 19 Sep 1677, the date his Will was probated.
William ROPER seems to have had at least one son, John ROPER, by his first wife, Mary EPPES. Catherine ROPER may also have been a daughter of Mary EPPES.
If, in fact, Thomas ROPER was a son of William ROPER, he may have been born either to a second wife, or to Katherine, possibly the widow of Thomas GRAVES.
Thomas ROPER is shown to have been transported into the Colony of Virginia and then into Maryland by Richard OWENS proximate to the date of Captain William ROPER's death.[1][2] This may have been an indication that he stayed behind when William ROPER came to America or that he was being educated in England. It also might mean that he wasn't Captain William ROPER's son at all.
Thomas ROPER's Will was dated 19 Sep 1677 an proved in Anne Arundel on 26 Oct 1677. The principal legatees of his Will were his widow Mary (unknown) ROPER and minor daughter Mary. Thomas also bequeathed to Dr. William JONES a young horse and to William MITCHELL his long gun, presumably a musket. Widow Mary ROPER was appointed executrix, while JONES and MITCHELL were appointed as "overseers" of his Will. William BOWMAN, Thomas JEFFE and Hugh PORTINGALE are shown to have been witnesses.
