Biography
His name appears in the Inquisitions Post Mortem of Edward III, as an heir to his father, John, who died May 22, 1351. [1]
Notes
This volume (Inquisitions Post Mortem of Edward III,) covers the 21st through 25th years of the reign of Edward III of England. [1] He ruled from 1327-1377. [2] This puts it in the 1348 to 1352 range.
The inquiry took place on Thursday, December 1st. This date and day of the week only lined up in 1351 (Julian calendar). [3]
It was recorded on 14 July, the 25th year of Edward III (1352).
He inherited all of his father's property except for the Manor of Routh, which went to his brother William. Richard was thirteen at that time, making his birth year approximately 1339.
He is listed as a knight, but the term may have had a different meaning at that time. [4][5]
