Alexander's grandfather, James Rosamond, had established a woolen mill in Almonte, Ontario. It was expanded by his sons, Bennett and William. Alexander took over the management of the Almonte Knitting Company (previously the Rosamond Woollen Company) on the death of his uncle, Bennett Rosamond, in 1910.[1]
During the First World War, Alexander served as a lieutenant in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment). He died during the Battle of the Somme on September 15, 1916, in Courcelette, France, and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.[2]
