Biography

Ira was born about 1836. He was the son of Nicholas Rose and Sarah Rhodes.

He passed away about 1863.

Enlisted July 16, 1862 from Johnston County. He was killed by the blowing up of the magazine at Leesburg VA in 1863. He was at the time sick in the hospital at that place and to prevent the munitions of war that was then stored there from falling in to the hands of the enemy, the magazine was blown up. Why our men which destroyed many of the sick in the hospital. He was our youngest Uncle and very much beloved by us in our boyhood. He was about six years our senior and never married. He was a gifted Messianic man full of Christian Virtues and if not a Shining Angel. This day in the Courts of the Redeemer there to us it would seem hard to live the life of a Christian. Peace to his ashes in our prayers.

William Nicholas Rose, Jr.
