Research Notes

Emma Rose was married to Nathan Gilman prior to her marriage to Asel Fairchild. Nathan Gilman served in Company B, 1st Regiment, Engineers and Mechanics, Michigan during the Civil War. (He was captured and imprisoned at Andersonville prison in Georgia. His service records show he survived captivity but not the war.)

Living with Asel and Emma Fairchild in the 1870 census was 6-year-old Charles Gillman, presumably a son of Emma's from her prior marriage.

Living next door to Asel and Emma Fairchild in the 1880 census were 70-year-old Erastus and 60-year-old Susan Rose. Were these Emma's parents?

In the 1900 census, her son from her first marriage, Chas. N. Gillman, was living with her. The census states that only 2 of her 3 children were living in 1900.

The 1910 census states that only 2 of her 3 children were living in 1910.

In the 1920 census, Emma was living in the household of her 55-year-old son, Chas. Gilman, in Grant's Pass, Oregon.
