Biography

James Rose, child of James Rose, horse dealer, & Elizabeth, was born in December 1820 and baptised on 4 September 1821 in Manchester, St John, Lancashire, England.^[1]

James, living on Stanley Street in Hulme, a horse keeper, married Elizabeth Ann Rayburn by licence on 11 March 1845 at Manchester Cathedral.^[2] The couple had no children.

In the 1851 census James (age 33) lived with his wife and a servant on Great Nelson St, Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He was a Horse Keeper.^[3]

James married Hannah Fazackerley (nee Scholes), widow of Thomas Fazackerley and publican at Beavington Hill, on 18 Mar 1856 at St Nicholas' Church in Liverpool, again by licence.^[4] Their only son William James Rose was born in Liverpool in 1858. He died at a year old.

In the 1861 census James (age 41) was operating the pub on Beavington Hill, Liverpool, Lancashire, England with his wife and 2 servants.^[5]

In the 1871 census James (age 52) lived with his wife, a boarder and a servant at Sea View, Commercial Road in Kirkdale, Lancashire, England. He was a manure dealer.^[6]

In the 1881 census James (age 60) was the married head of household on Long Moor Lane in Walton On The Hill, Lancashire, England. He was a Contractor.^[7]

James Nalton Rose (age 60) of Rose Cottages in Walton, died on November 19, 1881 of apoplexy, and was buried in St Mary's Cemetery in Kirkdale, Lancashire. His address was recorded as Longmoore Lane.^{[8] [9]}
